Launching an app? Make security a priority

Chances are, if you’re developing a web application, you’ve probably integrated your app with other online apps. Maybe you’re using Google or Facebook as login options, or maybe your app is a data source for someone else’s app.

Whatever the case, the connections and code that enable app-to-app communication need to be secure. Otherwise, your dreams of being a millionaire software entrepreneur could be dashed before you’re out of the starting gate.

Smart APIs are secure APIs

When you’re focused on shipping code, it’s sometimes easy for security issues to fall through the cracks. If you’re having to build an API from scratch, most of the focus is going to go into just making sure the API works.

But even if you’re leveraging someone else’s integration, there are major problems that can crop up if no one ever spends the time to make sure that the data being routed back and forth between apps is being handled securely.

If these integrations are insecure when you move your code to production you could be faced will all sorts of problems. A security breach could kill your app before it’s even gotten off the ground, either because of damage done to your brand or to the app itself.

Or, if your product is reliant on leveraging someone else’s API and you’ve failed to follow their security standards, they might revoke your access to their product. In some cases, there may not be a good alternative for you to switch to.

Launching an app is HARD - It’s OK to ask for help

Launching an app is stressful. There’s usually a lot to do and not much time to do it when you’re trying to beat others to market. It’s OK to solely focus on getting your code to run, just make sure someone else is covering your back on the security front.

One of the areas we’re able to help startups and established developers with is secure code review and vulnerability testing. While you’re working on getting your product shipped, we can review both the core product and any APIs that you’ve built or are leveraging to make sure there aren’t any security issues.

Even if you’re operating on a tight development budget, we may have a solution that works for you and will protect you from more expensive problems in the future. Don’t make launching an app harder than it is already.

If you’d like to learn about our secure code review and software vulnerability testing services, give us a call or e-mail and we can setup a time to discuss your needs and see if we’re the right security consultants to help you launch your app.
